  2. Bud Stege
  3. Larry Bumb

ByLaw Amendments

  • Amendment #1 - Passed (See part "A" below)
  • Amendment #2 - Passed (See part "B" below)

Part A

Bylaws currently read:
Number of Directors: Qualifications. The number of directors of the corporation to constitute the Board of Directors shall be twelve (12). The number of directors may be increased or decreased by amendment to these Bylaws, in accordance with the General Not-For-Profit Corporation Law; provided, however, that the number of directors shall in no event be less than three (3). Each director shall be a citizen of the United States of America (refer to section on elections).

Amended to read
Number of Directors: Qualifications. The number of directors of the corporation to constitute the Board of Directors shall be fifteen (15). The number of directors may be increased or decreased by amendment to these Bylaws, in accordance with the General Not-For-Profit Corporation Law; provided, however, that the number of directors shall in no event be less than three (3). Each director shall be a citizen of the United States of America (refer to section on elections).

Purpose
The last Bylaw revision happened in 2002, since then, the club has experienced tremendous growth. For example, we now need to split the bantam and midget director position as well as split the secretary and registrar position. If approved by the membership, the additional board positions will be appointed by the board with 1 appointee serving 1 year on the board (then position up for election), 2nd appointee serving 2 years on the board (then position up for election) and finally the 3nd appointee serving 3 years on the board (then position up for election).

Part B

Bylaws currently read:
No such current Bylaw.

Amended to read:
Allow for a Director Emeritus. This position will serve at the pleasure and appointed by the Board of Directors, have all the voting rights of the Board. There will be no term limit.

Purpose
To keep one (1) experienced person on the board.

My three Central States trivia nights never made less than $12,000 for one team. I feel the club has not taken advantage of fund raising to help families in need or adding programs to take players to the next level.

With 17 years of coaching experience, I can help coaches in need of how to run a practice to better understanding of officials and rules. With pride I can state I have never received a game misconduct and only one bench minor in my entire 17 years behind the bench. I have numerous ideas on ways to keep players and families from leaving our club. I am willing to join the board for the enrichment of our players and club. I have no children or relatives in the club. I volunteer my time because of my passion for hockey.”

A Message from USA Hockey President - Ron DeGregorio

posted Mar 24, 2013, 12:10 PM by Greg Papuga   [ updated Mar 24, 2013, 12:12 PM ]

It is tournament season for many of our programs. This is the time when our players display what they have learned during the year in a competitive environment. We as adults love sports competitions and we love to watch and root for our children in games. Adults enjoy watching hockey with its speed and skill. Parents especially love watching their children playing the game.

Some parents get highly caught up in these games as they would watching highly competitive professional games. Fortunately, most adults now know that for young children, the game is not about winning. It is about participating, developing athletic skills and confidence, and just having fun. Unlike the high performance games played by older teenage players and professionals, the children’s game is more about developing a love and drive to play the game as they travel the road toward maturity.

I do hope more adults continue to encourage players in a fun and learning environment. In this way, more players will be all they can be as athletes with greater self-‐assurance and with a healthier athletic life style. USA Hockey continues to be concerned with an “over-‐ emphasis” of winning in the youngest age levels. Often this “over-‐emphasis” is a product of adult behavior and/or ignorance. USA Hockey encourages responsible adult behavior in and around our children’s games. The goal should be “fun and learning” outcomes that promote a love of the game for our children’s long term development with reduced risks.

To this point, USA Hockey has concerns in crowning “national champions” before age 13. The quest at such a young age in a late development sport like hockey often fosters adult enterprises and goals that can produce counterproductive results and behavior. USA Hockey’s research has indicated for those under age 13, seeking national championships and the adult behavior it fosters is not consistent with effective long term athletic development. USA Hockey does not encourage hockey specialization under age 12. Research shows that specialization at such young ages is counterproductive for athletic skill development.

Unfortunately, I understand that some enterprises are promoting “national championships” for players 8 and under. USA Hockey must continue to educate parents by reinforcing long term athlete development principles and the importance of a broad spectrum of sports activities for children 12 and under. Since there are new parents regularly coming to hockey, the message and information must be clear and direct. This work can never stop.

I often see USA Hockey described as the National Governing Body for hockey in the USA. Although that is correct, I see USA Hockey as a “Membership Service Organization” (MSO). As an MSO, USA Hockey serves hockey participants and others who have an interest in the game. I often call these groups stakeholders in the game. USA Hockey does research and development on programs that serve and address various stakeholder groups. For example, USA Hockey does extensive research on player development, reducing and managing risks in and around the game, and growing participation and continuing interest in the game for our participant groups.

The American Development Program (ADM) was developed as a result of research on long term athlete development for optimal skill development at a time skills can be most effectively acquired. The ADM is relatively new but is having positive impact. I want to commend the leadership shown by so many stakeholders promoting the Red, White, and Blue small ice program for our young 8 and under players. Installing a program that encourages a strong foundation for loving the game and allowing players to be all they can be athletically is a positive achievement for all involved. I also believe the ADM will improve the hockey experience for all stakeholder groups.

USA Hockey has memberships in the USA Hockey Foundation. Foundation memberships include “non-‐participant membership” categories for USA Hockey. The Foundation memberships are for parents, former members (alumni of USA Hockey) and others who love or have interest in the sport or those playing hockey. Some of these membership categories are free. For example, our parent basic membership is free. USA Hockey wants to impact parents of children playing hockey. Connecting information developed by research to our stakeholders is an important membership service goal. Increasing our connection and relevance with our stakeholder groups will improve outcomes for those we serve. We need to address how we can connect and impact more stakeholders with our membership services. Then, there will be even more to like about USA Hockey.

Sincerely
Ron DeGregorio

6th Annual Bill McKenna Memorial Golf Classic

posted Mar 15, 2013, 7:32 AM by Greg Papuga

Benefiting the Bill McKenna Memorial Scolarship Foundation

The Bill McKenna Memorial Scholarship Foundation awards college scholarships to several outstanding students from the St. Louis hockey community each year. The foundation was named after the late Bill McKenna, an inaugural inductee into the St. Louis Amateur Hockey Hall of Fame. Bill was active within many facets of St. Louis hockey until his death in 1997. Bill had the right attitude about youth sports. His optimism and sportsmanship were as much evident in his enjoyment of the game as in the positive mark he made upon St. Louis hockey. As a veteran referee, Bill didn't just enforce the rules. He also encouraged the integrity of the game. Most of all, he took the welfare of his players to heart: truly the “Referee of Referees!” Through continuing fundraising efforts and contributions from individuals and organizations, Bill's contribution to St. Louis hockey – both on and off the ice – is honored through the academic assistance the foundation offers to Missouri students.

Event is open to coaches, officials, players, and other individuals who would like to support St. Louis area youth hockey players who officiate for the Missouri Ice Hockey Officials Association.
